St. Joseph Mercy Canton Health Center is adding the Center for Advanced Medicine & Surgery as part of an expansion project. The new center slated for November 22 opening, is designed to offer additional services locally for the growing surrounding communities.

Designed by HKS, the $20 million project consists of two phases: the first expansion features a 3,300 square feet, one-story addition at the south end of the existing building. This facility is designed to accommodate a mobile dock for both PET and MRI, a new 64-slice CT, expansion of the family lounge, lab space, and shelled space for a future fixed MRI.

The second expansion to the center includes a 53,000 square feet, two-story addition. This facility is designed to house a cancer center, surgery center, healing garden, and new entrance. The addition is designed to blend with the original classical prairie-style building.

The additional building features a low-sloped green mansard roof. It complements the facade of matching brick, deep tinted glass, and cast stone accent banding. A two-story monochromatic tinted glass curtain-wall section visually divides the new additional structure from the original building.
