To be built at Falconwood on the site of the existing Westwood College, the project involves designing an assembly space to house more than 1,000 students, with an attached Internet cafe, design and technology space, and first floor gallery. The assembly hall leads onto a business center – the main specialist space of the new school.

Alan Johnson, director of education at Hunters, said that the design is based on business enterprise centers, rather than traditional schools. He adds that they have used the historic ‘cloistered courtyard’ concept seen in universities like Oxford and Cambridge, making it an energetic focal point to create a buzz within the school.

The construction of the school, which will accommodate 900 pupils, aged 11-16, and 250 post 16 students, is slated to begin in early 2010, and expected to be complete by September 2011.
