California-based Soltek Pacific is the general contractor for the project. The refurbishment and restoration project, which is funded by California State Parks, a California Cultural and Historical Endowment, Delaware North Companies and Old Town Family Hospitality, is 80% complete. Heritage Architecture and Planning, ASM Affiliates and IS Architecture are the other firms involved in the restoration scheme.

The reconstruction project has taken utmost care in maintaining the authenticity of the restoration. Archaeologists and architects, who are involved in the scheme, have tried to keep the historic details of the building as accurate as possible. This has been done by using bricks from the site and retrieving the two fireplaces on the upper level.

The lower level of the building is being preserved and the exterior side wall on the upper floor sports the original 1869 wood.

The hotel is recognized as a historical building in California. The building was originally constructed as San Diego pioneer Juan Bandini’s home, between 1827 and 1829. The home is constructed with 50,000 handmade adobe bricks. The property got converted into a hotel in 1869, after a second floor addition to the building.
