The airport is planning to undertake an expansion project by enhancing both sides of the terminal, with the design plans already discussed with the community members. The scheme is aimed to accommodate the growing passenger traffic.

The scheme proposes to expand the north and south end of the terminal by adding 6,000 square feet area. This additional space will be designed to accommodate new explosive detection equipment and full body scanners. Construction is expected to start in early 2011.

The airport terminal has been expanded twice and partially re-built once. The current terminal was built in 1959. It was expanded in 1982 and the boarding area was torn down and retrofitted to accommodate smaller aircraft with jet ways in the mid-2000s.
