Scandinavian giant, IKEA, has announced the launch of its latest endeavour, a bicycle called the ‘Sladda’, which means to slide sideways in Swedish. And as you may have already guessed, it does indeed come flat-packed.
The company collaborated with Veryday, a design studio with impressive clientele including Swedish supercare manufactuer, Koenigsegg and stroller firm, BabyBjörn to create the eco-friendly bike.

The bicycle comes in one colour and two sizes, making it adaptable and customisable to everyone who buys it. Features like the add-on saddle and the automatic gear change are what really make this ride special.
‘Sladda is like a tablet with apps,’ says Oskar Juhlin, Director of Industrial Design at Veryday, ‘in the sense that you can customise it with several different accessories adapted to make everyday life easier for the user.
‘Sladda enables the user to replace the car and by doing so contributing to a more eco-friendly environment.’

The bike retails for £450 with the large one priced slightly higher for £349. The bike can go the distance with its guarantee of 15,000 km and even comes with a 25-year limited warranty and rust free frame.
Marcus Engman, Head of Design at the Swedish company says, 'At IKEA, we're not just making things…we're using design to make things better.
'We work with what we call Democratic Design, where we make sure our products have great function, are beautifully designed and made to stand everyday life while being sustainable – all made accessible through low prices.'
IKEA hopes to influence their customers to make changes to their lifestyle and really take charge in the ‘go green’ movement with Sladda. Will your car be replaced? Tweet us @DesignCurial!
