IHNcorp and its subsidiary, Ecogreen Solutions, replaced the T-8 fluorescent lights with ilumisys MK-1 LED light tubes in several areas of the marina. They also installed ilumisys light tubes in an overhang area outside of Proud Mary’s and Turks restaurants.

ilumisys tubes, the energy-efficient alternative to the fluorescent tubes they replace, are mercury free. Despite industry and government efforts to limit mercury content and encourage recycling, the 500–600 million fluorescent tubes discarded annually in the US release an estimated two to four tons of mercury in the environment.

Brian Dunn, general manager of Vintage Marina Partners, says that the energy savings of LED lighting coupled with its stylistic design, make this an easy transition to sustainable business practices.

Vintage Marina Partners has also used LED lighting for another harbor project. Wanting to continue using the same in their additional properties, they saw an opportunity to use eco-friendly lighting while rebuilding the Proud Mary restaurant after it burned down last year.
