NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have submitted a full planning application to West Dunbartonshire Council for the facility which is set to be constructed in the grounds of the Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria. Associated access roads and parking facilities will also be built.
The building will be shaped in the form of an arachnid and will house GP practices currently located in the Bank Street clinic, as well as community mental health services, podiatry and physiotherapy, and community nursing services including health visitors and district nurses.
The facility will be clad in timber and metal. It will feature space for treatment and consulting rooms, clinics, surgeries, waiting areas, baby change and baby feeding facilities and a public education room.
Designs have been put up for public consultation. The Scottish Government provided the funding for the project in April 2011. Work is expected to begin by late 2011 and is expected to take 20 months to complete, with the new facility opening in 2013. Laing O’Rourke is the developer for the project.
