The building has been developed by Interserve, in association with Raynsway Properties and is stated to be UK’s first Passivhaus zero-carbon commercial building. The facility spans over an area of 6000 square feet and encompasses two floors.
The office abides by several green principles. It incorporates triple glazing, a high-performance insulation system and reinforced concrete walls which repels heat during the warmer days and prevents loss of heat during the winter season.
Majority of the work spaces in the building are positioned on the southern side which is highly glazed in nature which, along with the south-facing windows, optimises natural light penetration in the cooler days and reduces solar gain during summer through use of blinds. The ventilated air passes inside via an earth tube system located under the car parking lot which utilizes ground heat during winter and low temperatures of the ground in summer. The facility reaps 10% of energy savings over a traditional building by employing energy-efficient measures.
