Located at 7571 State Route 54 in Bath, New York, the expanded emergency department was the main focus of the $4.6m renovation project.

Improvements to the facility include an expansion of the square footage of the emergency department by 66%; increasing the number of treatment areas from three to six; and creating the facility’s first dedicated pediatric treatment area for children’s care.

The project also upgraded medical equipment and information technology to improve patient outcomes and experiences; and constructed a new ambulance entrance and a grade-level, barrier-free entrance for patients, families and staff.

A new helipad was also created.

Hospital President and COO James B. Watson said the project will enable the hospital to serve patients faster and more efficiently during periods of peak experience, as well as to accommodate growth in patient volume.

Renovations were funded in part by a capital campaign operated by the Keuka Health Care Foundation.

The new emergency department is named in honor of Donald F. Coon, former medical director of Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital; and Joseph F. Meade Jr, former president of the hospital who passed away in early 2010.
