With permission from the investment commission of Basra, the compound, spread across 396,000 square meters, will feature hotels, recreation facilities and public areas.

Located near Shatt al-Arab, the private sector will build the project in two phases. Construction work is expected to reach completion in 2014.

Iraq plans to rebuild its infrastructure for tourists to boost the economy, with much focus on investment in Basra governorate. The province, with the Gulf coast and the area alongside the Shatt al-Arab, is one of the country’s main tourism sites.
