The City Tower renovation project is a scheme of Great Portland Estates and investment firm Starwood Capital. Scope of work involves renovation of the 10 floors of the 21-storey office building, which is equivalent to approximately 80,000 square feet.

The project will improve the building both internally as well as externally. It has been designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Very Good’ office accommodation and improved public realm space accreditation.

Centre to the scheme is the renovation of two-storey podium deck at the base of the structure, including a public high walkway area. The company will build a new glazed entrance portico at the podium level, which will create a contemporary reception area and serve as a secondary entrance.

Additionally, the company will also undertake certain structural alterations, such as installation of new roof lights on the podium deck and addition of a performance glazing onto the southern elevation, which will allow natural light to permeate into the lower levels.

The project also involves replacement of the restaurant and hard landscaping on the high walkway area with a new attractive landscaping scheme. ISG will also upgrade the facade with aluminium cladding panels, which is likely to enhance the visual impact of the building. Further, it will also fit out the open plan office accommodation to Cat A standard and upgrade the mechanical and electrical systems of the building with more energy-efficient systems.

The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2013.
