To be located at Kings Dock, on the Liverpool’s waterfront, the new ECL will be a 8,100 square metre facility. The centre will feature three, about 2,700 square metre halls, alongside an integrated hotel, which will be developed by the city council.
The exhibition centre will accommodate a public atrium, food and beverage outlets, meeting rooms and a business centre. The halls will be separated by means of movable walls. The facility will be used for hosting trade and consumer exhibitions, concerts and sports events.
The project forms an integral part of ACC Liverpool, which is home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena. Upon completion of new ECL, ACC Liverpool will have 15,225 square metre of interlinked and flexible event space.
Both the new as well as existing event space will be connected to each other by means of covered link, which will make it the Europe’s first purpose-built interconnected arena, convention and exhibition centre.
ISG plans to file a planning application for the scheme in March 2013 and, subjected to approval, intends to commence construction in the third quarter of 2013 and complete it by the first quarter of 2015. The scheme will be owned by Liverpool City Council and managed by ACC Liverpool.
