The Amphidromous Rectangle, a 51 square metre apartment, which serves as a guest house and incubation office, has undergone an extensive renovation. The designer collaborated with constructor Kataoka Koumuten Corporation for the scheme.
Amphidromous Rectangle has a depth of 10.5m and is 5.4m wide, and is located near Osaka City’s transportation nucleus. The renovation was designed in a way that the space, in addition to being peaceful, would also be interesting. The accommodation is complete with workspace.
The apartment includes a semi-open kitchen that spills out into a living/dining area, a traditional tatami room and a hallway, a guest space and a central room with a walk-in closet. The northern wall materialises with a blurred reflection and doubles as a screen, which vaguely displays lights and various scenes. This amplifies the sense of fluidity and abstractness.
The wall incorporates various kinds of lighting arrangements, which sets different mood for the space. For privacy, the house has sliding door which enables the residents to be cut off from the rest. The doors of the house has cutting slits, which brings in natural light into the inner space.
