Spread over 52,000 square metres, Piazza Maras Shopping Center is located in the heart of the city at the junction of the north-south and east-west highways. It features 153 retail stores, 24 restaurants, cafes, a family entertainment centre, skating rink, and eight-screen cinema.
5+design took the design cues of the shopping centre from Maras, a smaller city in Turkey’s southeast region that is agriculturally and textile driven with a strong focus on natural materials and craft. The design of Piazza Maras Shopping Center is inspired from the surrounding areas and buildings and references the historical elements of Kahramanmaras within the context of a modern design language.
The four-storey shopping centre features an expansive wood and glass sky lit roof, which s undulating in nature. Opening to the sky above, the roof frames multiple views of the North historic city centre and the Southern Dibec Mountains.
Piazza Maras blends modern design and historical architecture with natural materials of the region. The design has incorporated a combination of columned arcades, covered markets, and bay windows, referencing to the historical Maras landscape.
Piazza Maras Shopping Center is expected to be the city’s first modern, high-quality retail mall.
