The early twentieth century-built house is situated next to Heide Hall and has received an approval for a $200,000 renovation, which would see the home upgraded to new standards of safety including the installation of new electrical systems, new parking spaces, and modernized kitchen and bathrooms.
The renovations are slated to make the home more accessible to the physically challenged. Oak Society officials stated that their aim is to make the home compliant with American Disability Act (ADA).
Further renovation plans include refurbishment of the garage, installation of an entrance ramp and hard-wire smoke alarms. Plans also include the construction of a first-floor laundry area and conversion of a bathroom to meet the ADA standards.
Post renovations, the house will be named as the fraternity house for the Kappa Omega chapter by the city for the first time and would feature the name of the organization at the entrance.
The Kappa Omega chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha was chartered in 1998 at UW-Whitewater and is currently made up of 52 undergraduate members.
