The furniture line, which would be unveiled at the ‘Handmade show’ sponsored by Wallpaper in Milan, has been inspired by the Bedouin’s way of life. The pieces consist of stacked mattresses held together with a cord threaded through them to create sofas, ottomans and tables of varying heights, colors and fabrics.

Tradition of Bedouins is clearly visible in the design of the chaise lounge. Bedouins use their camel saddles and rolled up carpets to create a makeshift seating or resting place. The basic function of the lounge is the same. It consists of an elevated makeshift stand, on which the mattresses can be rolled over with cushions to create a resting or seating area. When not in use, the mattresses can be tied to the stand with the help of ropes provided.

The design of majlis, the traditional Arabic sofa, resembles that of rugs stacked on top of each other. The seats are composed of layers of mattresses, covered in modern interpretations of traditional Middle Eastern designs. They are joined by ropes and can also be flipped, if a change in the color of the top layer or the height of the seat is desired. Bidoun sofas are available in different heights, depending on the quantity of stacked layers.

Bidoun is made of pine, veneer or marble fabric constructs. With its clean lines and sleek design, the Bidoun is a suitable seating solution in any modern house in the Middle East and other parts of the world. It is also suitable for any hotel and office lobby or waiting area.

Coffee table from this furniture line is made of a slab of wood joined by ropes which can be easily carried from one place to the other.

The collection was initially developed for the Bidoun Magazine lounge as part of an event called ArtPark at ArtDubai 2009 earlier this year.
