The new facility site is located adjacent to the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center and will span 9,200-square-feet. The museum will curate the University’s permanent art collection and serve as a cultural resource on contemporary art.
The museum will include three exhibition galleries, as well as the Leo Delle Lassiter Jolley Foundation Collection Research Center and a glass atrium, dubbed as Ruth V. Zuckerman Pavilion, which will showcase the sculptures by Ruth V. Zuckerman, who is renowned for work in stone and bronze. The museum will also showcase works by Rembrandt Peale, Viola Frey, Norman Rockwell, Howard Finster, Lamar Dodd, Thomas Hart Benton, James Abbott McNeil Whistler, N.C. Wyeth and Athos Menaboni.
Construction on the scheme is being undertaken by Possibility Construction Incorporated. The facility is scheduled for opening in late 2013.
The museum has been named Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art in the honour of its benefactor Bernard A. Zuckerman, who granted $2 million towards the $3 million construction cost of the scheme.
