The new school campus will sprawl over 5.4 hectares site, which formerly served as the Glaxo Sports Ground. The project has been designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. The main building of the campus will have sunlit and airy top-floor art studios, spacious classrooms, creative technology rooms, and modern science labs. The frontage of the science labs will be fully glazed, which will enable the students to watch experiments as they take place.
The four-storey building will incorporate a triangular space encompassing a large open area extending its full height, flooded with top-down natural light. It will be skirted by balconies looking onto a large library and a central performance space that has a seating capacity of 500. The external façade of the building will be made of polished stainless steel and textured brickwork.
The new campus will also include five sports pitches, floodlit hard playing surfaces, indoor sports hall and activity studio, which will be available for community usage as well. The company has already submitted a formal planning application to the London Borough of Ealing.
The school will have a capacity of 1,200 students in the age group of 11 to 16-year-olds. The project also involves construction of a sixth form with places for 250 students and a centre for children with special educational needs.
Construction on the scheme is scheduled to begin in October 2012. Construction on the main building is likely to be completed before September 2013, however internal fit-out works will continue until April 2014.
