Specialist cladding contractor A.B.S./Elbrow, working in partnership with Midas Construction, specified the KS1000 RW roof cladding for Basepoints latest Managed Business, Innovation and Enterprise Centre (MBEC). It followed the specification of three of Kingspans wall cladding products KS600 EB, KS600 MR, KS900 EB and KS900 MR elsewhere on the building. The side elevation to the approach to the site is coated in Celestia Electra to match Basepoints corporate colour.
In all, Kingspan supplied 11,500 sq ft of roof cladding for the roof area of this combination of light starter units and office accommodation. The Centre, designed by architect Seymour Harris Partnership, has 95 self-contained units.
Pete Field of A.B.S./Elbrow explains: Kingspans KS1000 RW 100mm thick cladding was chosen to provide a greater U-value in the roof to provide savings about the U-value in the floor slab. If a built up system had been used, this would have resulted in a huge construction depth.
The KS1000 RW through-fixed roof system is a FIREsafe solution ideal for both new builds and refurbishment construction. It provides simple and fast site installation, long-term lifecycle durability, good economics and reliable thermal and air leakage performance.
Kingspans KS600/900 EB/MR wall panels are secret fix panels that can be laid horizontally or vertically. The wide range of external finishes available includes euro-box and micro-rib used at Basepoint as well as flat, mini-micro and wave profiles. Euro-box was used at Basepoint Swindon to mimic a louvre at high level.
Basepoint Centres provide accommodation ranging from micro units suitable for one-person businesses to larger business suites, drive up studio units and a range of spacious workshop units. The new centre at Swindon is the 13th Basepoint to be built in the UK.
