Spread over 10,650 square feet of space, the ski chalet will serve as a building block for many operations, including a base area ski chalet and a venue for banquets and meetings.
Catering to the needs of the guests, the wood-frame chalet contains a large great room with a fireplace and an expanse of windows looking up the ski slope. The chalet features year-round Riverside Bar & Grill, an outdoor patio, ski patrol room, and ski rental area. It also offers a new parking lot and bus drop-off area.
The total cost of the project, which includes a new Spirit Express II chairlift built by Spirit Mountain, is $7 million.
Originally built in 1974, Spirit Mountain is a premier ski and snowboard recreation area in Duluth. The Spirit Mountain Adventure Park, which is open throughout the year, features the “Timber Twister” Alpine Coaster; “Timber Flyer” Zip Line; 9-hole mini golf course; and a snow tubing park. New downhill mountain bike trails will open in the summer of 2013.
