The retail expansion is part of the GBP12.4 million ($19.1 million) terminal renovation scheme, which commenced in November 2009. The reconfiguration scheme will create a central search area and a rebalancing of the airside-landside boundary from 50:50 to 20:80, in favor of landside.

The scheme will increase the overall commercial space from 5,111 square meters to 7,435 square meters. This is equivalent to 22% of the total terminal floor space. The new commercial area will be split 15/85 in favor of airside. The space will feature extra high-street brands and the existing duty-free concessionaire, World Duty Free, will open a new walk-through store in the reconfigured terminal.
