Estimated to cost £5.5 billion ($8.190 billion), the new project will provide in excess of 17 million square feet of mixed-use space including 14,000 houses, offices, local retailing and community uses.
Said to be one of the largest planning applications in the country, the scheme involves the regeneration of a 60 hectare redundant, historic dockland site, located in and adjacent to a World Heritage Site.
In March 2012 the council granted outline planning consent for the scheme and on 4 March 2013, the scheme received the planning approval for the redevelopment of the dockland site.
