The INR100 crore ($22.46 million) terminal expansion project is expected to handle an increasing number of passengers. The expansion work is almost complete at the East-West corridor of the airbase, with some works related to glass fixing still remaining.
The terminal building has been expanded by 10,000 square meters and an extra building block added on both sides of the existing one.
Captain Deepak Shastri, the director of AAI, Pune, said that the testing of two aerobridges are complete and will be commissioned after the expansion work completes. He also added that the work on the corridor which will connect the bridges is also nearing completion.
The vacant space of the old terminal for the construction of another departure area is also under consideration.
