Carillion plc has been appointed to build the IBC/MPC, which is due to begin construction on site in April 2009. The design comprises Allies and Morrison, Buro Happold and RPS Group Burks Green.
The media center features a wildlife-friendly ‘green’ roof. The use of recycled water collected across the Olympic Park is expected to house 20,000 journalists, broadcasters and photographers. Post Olympics, the IBC and MPC will compress to a 900,000 square feet that will be used as a business space.
The IBC/MPC combines an innovative mixture of permanent and temporary elements during the Games and has been designed to be as flexible as possible to accommodate a range of tenants and uses.
Hackney Mayor Jules Pipe wants the IBC/MPC to become a hub for the digital, media and creative industries after the Games.
