The proposed new Macclesfield Town Football Club stadium would be the focal point of the entire scheme and would include community facilities, theatre and a cinema. The new stadium would have a capacity of 6,500 to 7,000. It will be built on the South Macclesfield Development Area between Congleton Road and London Road.
According to the club’s official site chairman Mike Rance, the new stadium will incorporate various sustainable energy sources at the design stage itself, making it the first low carbon stadium in the UK. There are plans to develop sustainable energy sources by using methane from a neighbouring landfill site.
The regeneration scheme will include a mix of retail, residential and leisure use. It includes proposals to reinforce Market Square and Chestergate and the upper part of Mill Street as the ‘heart of the town centre’ and making the Park Green area and the west of Churchill Way, the centre for leisure facilities.
