25 Jobs Lane has been occupied by the Parrish Art Museum which will be vacated in November 2012. Machado and Silvetti Associates envisions to transform the space into a new cultural institution and venue for the arts and a space for various cultural events.
The aged building needs an extensive facelift before it takes on a new identity. Machado and Silvetti will begin the conceptual design work immediately, partnering with local and regional architecture, engineering and construction firms. Renovation work would be performed by preserving and recasting the former museum building, restoring it to its former glory.
Work on the Machado and Silvetti redesign is set to begin either in 2013 or 2014. During the design and construction period, Southampton Center will program and occupy the planned flexible-use outdoor performance pavilion designed by the Rockwell Group on the grounds of the Parrish Arboretum.
25 Jobs Lane was was constructed by Samuel Parrish and designed by architect Grosvenor Atterbury in the late 19th and early 20th century. The Parrish Art Museum was the first art museum in Southampton. From 1897 to 1913 three original phases of construction designed by Atterbury served to expand the museum into its present day cruciform building form. An addition of vault and office spaces to the north west corner of the cruciform in the 1950’s completed the present day structure’s built form which now encompasses 17,000 square feet on a property spread over three acres at 25 Jobs Lane with additional access to the northern municipal parking lot.
