The rehab-facility, after the makeover, will be a 95,000 square feet building, that will replace Wellington Crescent’s rehab center. The center has roped two architect firm for the projects – Stantec Architecture and Prairie Architects. The architects plan to re-design the building in a way that it complies with all the requirements for LEED silver certification. The construction of the site will be done by Shelter Canadian Properties.

The building will feature an array of large skylights, for bathing the building with sunlight during the day. The natural light through the roof will give the facility an atrium-like feel in the waiting areas and the foyers.

The center of the building will have an internal courtyard that will give access to the outdoor space for families, recreational programming and therapy. The front of the building will feature a centralized reception area. Additionally, the building will also have a family resource center, which will be located close to the front waiting area.

The facility will also have a fully integrated childcare center which will have features for kids with special requirements. The building will have a parking space that will be adjacent to the front of the building. The front side of the facility will feature a canopied walkway up to the entrance.

Certain aspects in the original building comply with LEED norms. The construction company, to make the building accessible for physically challenged people, plans to make certain changes in the old building. A case in point is the elevated floor of the old building that doubled as the mezzanine level for the building. This floor will be replaced with ground level floor to make its accessible for people with physical disabilities.
