The new Bannockburn Heritage Centre is a joint project of National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland. It will be developed at the site of Bannockburn Heritage Centre, located at Battle of Bannockburn site, near Stirling in Scotland. It is poised to become a new visitor attraction with the creation of a new monument at the battle site and expansion of the physical presence of the site.
The new facility will span 1,118 square metre, and will consist of an education room for up to 60 pupils, a café and staff accommodation units. The project will also include few sustainable features, such as ground source heating system that will provide heating for the entire building.
The centre is being rebuilt to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn of 1314. It will feature interactive 3D installations, which will re-create life-like scenes from the battle. It will also showcase the architectural, engineering and construction heritage of Scotland.
The project is being funded by the Scottish Government and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The new centre is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2013.
