Nearly 13 plate beams, each weighing around 24,000 pounds, are to be erected to form a fixed steel canopy on the west side of the ballpark. The steel canopy is expected to be completed by early July 2010. Steel canopies are also coming up on the east, south, and north sides of the park. The entire fixed canopy is expected to be completed by January 2011.
One of the unique features of Marlin Ballpark is a retractable roof structure, made up of 3,500 steel trusses. It has three sliding panels that open to the south. The erection of a shoring tower to support the roof will also start soon on the west side of the ballpark and would be continued through June, 2010. The building will feature an area covered in metal sheets and a glass curtain wall.
Marlins Ballpark also features eco-friendly elements like low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints, adhesives, carpets and a flooring to improve the indoor air quality in the ballpark. The construction of the park is scheduled to be completed by 2012.
