This would be the first renovation at the stadium since it was built in the late 60s or early 70s, and is expected to cost an estimated $2-$3 million. A design and engineering firm from Austell has already been hired by the authorities to begin the design for the renovation project.
The 6,000-seat stadium will get new a new press box on the visitors’ side in the first phase, which is expected to solve congestion problems during the games. Other work will include addition of handicap seating, concession stand upgrades, new stadium lighting and a new sound system. The second phase will include field drainage system maintenance and field house renovations.
Construction work is expected to begin as soon as football season ends, with the first phase to be completed by late June 2013. The renovation would be funded from the E-SPLOST money.
McConnell-Talbert Stadium is currently shared by Houston County, Northside and Warner Robins high schools.
