McDonald’s executives are considering extensive remodeling of its restaurants in 400 to 500 locations across the US in 2010. McDonald’s Corporation has recently pledged $1 billion to carry forward this initiative. The aim is to make the restaurant more fashionable and modern while retaining its classic appearance.

A McDonald’s restaurant in North Hollywood, Los Angeles has undergone remodeling, reflecting a trendy image. Local designer Ed Webb has helped in creating a contemporary space with walls adorned with artistic murals. A central lounge area is another addition in the 88-seat dining room.

In 2006, McDonald’s introduced its ‘Forever Young’ brand by redesigning all its restaurants. This was the first major redesign since the 1970s. The redesign scheme muted the red color to terra cotta, and the yellow was turned to golden for a more pleasant look. Olive and sage green were also added to brighten the ambiance. The outlets feature less plastic and more brick and wood, along with modern hanging lights to produce a softer glow.

McDonald’s Corporation, headquartered in Illinois, franchises and operates McDonald’s restaurants in more than 100 countries worldwide.
