The new educational facility has a total area of 6,000 square metre. The facility accommodates the joint liberal arts and sciences programme of the University of Amsterdam and the VU University Amsterdam. The facility serves the new entrance to Science Park, the international knowledge centre in the Watergraafsmeer.

The facility has a spacious and robust layout. The top of the building accommodates a large loft. The loft is more emphasised by being placed diagonally opposite in a north-south direction tilting roof. The building has large void space, which forms the heart of the facility, and uses a winding staircase to connect different floors.

The building also accommodates restaurant, common room and a study hall. The study hall has two-storey facades, which offers the view of the Science Park. The material palette used for the facade consist of corten steel. The façade gives a warm and formal presence to the building and enables it to blend with the architecture of the Science Park.

Amsterdam University College includes a host of green elements, which comprises thermal energy storage and concrete core activation, among others. The building has moss sedum roof covering, which offers dual benefits of thermal insulation and water storage.
