The centre will build a new wing to the front of the facility by utilising its cash reserves and borrowing through bonds. The first floor will feature the Medical Center Pharmacy that will include a robotic pharmaceutical fulfillment machine, a new infusion centre with seven rooms that would expand cancer care services and treatments for adults, a registration area that will feature kiosks as well as helpful personnel, a gift nook/coffee bar, and a public community education room.
The second floor will have birthing and delivery services department (Family Center), which will feature two water-birthing rooms and a C-section surgical suite.
The three-phase renovation plan will allow the center to expand its critically over-utilised emergency and urgent care departments. For efficiency purposes, laboratory services will be consolidated to one location, while renovation of the centre’s specialty clinic will be instituted.
Memorial Health Center’s current construction project is divided into three phases. The first phase will be the expansion and renovation of the emergency department which will begin in April 2013. For emergency services, patients will be directed to use the main entrance of the hospital. All patients and visitors will be encouraged to take advantage of the parking attendant service provided by the centre at no charge.
The second phase, anticipated to start in late summer 2013, will be the building of the new wing. The final phase, starting in spring 2014, will be the consolidation of laboratory services and the reconfiguration of the Specialist’s Clinic area.
Construction will begin in April 2013, and is expected to complete in the fall of 2014. The last renovation and expansion project completed by the centre was in 2005.
