As part of renovations, the pediatric special care unit was moved to consolidate all pediatric general care areas on a single floor within the hospital. Significant improvements were done in the pediatric intensive care unit, including the addition of six new intermediate care beds while the Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center, including a new infusion room called “Matthew’s Place” was upgraded. In addition, three new exams rooms were also added and the nurses’ station was relocated to improve patient flow.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room has been present in the MUMC for over 25 years and offers family members a place to take a break, eat, watch TV, rest, and shower. The room was upgraded to offer better facilities to families.

The total cost was paid for entirely through philanthropy. Funds were provided by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, The One Hundred, and the Next Generation, as well as events such as the John A. (Jack) Kolbush Memorial Fund, the Lollipop Fund, the Kids Cash Classic golf tournament, and Patrick’s Ride provided funds.

MUMC is a two-state healthcare organization serving a 35-county area in southeast Georgia and southern South Carolina. The 100-bed children’s hospital offers more than 20 pediatric sub specialties.
