The Monmouth Mall, opened in 1960, will receive interior upgrades that will include fresh paint, new flooring, upgraded lighting and ceiling tiles and treatments.

The Vornado Realty Trust, the owner of the mall, is planning to offer a refreshed look to the mall with the interior displaying a different color palette dominated with more natural colors, including off-white. The current color scheme includes yellow and peach. These interior changes are expected to lend a more contemporary look.

The food court will get new furniture and flooring. The Boardwalk cafes’ exterior sign will be removed and the mall entrance will be remodeled.

The first phase to be completed by mid November 2010 will include renovation to the mall’s single level from Barnes & Noble to the movie theater. The second phase to be completed by mide-2011 will include renovation to the two-level section, the food court and the exterior food court entrance.

The Monmouth Mall spanning 1.5 million square feet underwent many changes since it opened in 1960 as a much smaller, open-air center. The mall was enclosed and expanded to its current size in 1975. It was renovated in 1987 and again in 1996, adding a 15-screen movie theater and a 700-seat food court.
