Replacing the town’s existing 1960s Aquarena, the £17.9 million ($27.20 million) state-of-the-art Splashpoint Leisure Centre is situated on Worthing’s seafront.

Overlooking the sea, the new building includes a six lane 25 metre competition pool and a learner and diving pool, an indoor leisure pool with flume and play facilities, an outdoor paddling pool, a health and fitness centre, café, and studio space. It also features a stunning copper roof.

The centre has incorporated movable floors which act as a pool cover. When raised, these floors will maintain water temperature and minimise heat losses in the pools.

Besides that the project incorporates various sustainable design elements like a ground source heat pump, which will use renewable energy to heat and cool the building. The pools have regenerative filters, which will lead to savings of 6,000 cubic metres of water per year, while recycled water will be used to flush the toilets.
