Post renovation, the department’s floor space will be increased by 40%. It will house a new nurse station with a full view of all the patient beds as a safety feature. In addition, the department, which currently has five beds, will be upgraded to seven.
The expansion will also include utility rooms, resuscitation area, and treatment bays. The aim of renovation is to improve facilities at the hospital for the community. Enabling works costing $145,000 have already been completed.
The construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of October 2013, will be carried out around the current emergency department with minimal disruption to patients.
The hospital provides care to over 15,200 patients every year.
