COWI-Larsen Joint Venture is the main consultant of the project. Work will involve creation of a passenger terminal building comprising a net floor space of 340,000 square metres. The design of the new terminal will allow light passage via large areas. The new terminal will have a passenger handling capacity of 12 million passengers per year.

The project will lead to creation of 70 other buildings. It includes an air traffic control tower measuring 97 metres in height, an Air Traffic Management Centre, as well as two runways serving Airbus 380. Among other features are 28 contact gates, 30 remote stands, over 7000 multi-storey parking spaces, and a dual 3-lane access road.

The annual passenger handling capacity of the airport is expected to reach 48 million after the completion of the project’s fourth or final phase. The project is slated to be completed by April 2014.
