The ‘connect the parks’ concept was hailed by Jersey City Waterfront Parks Conservancy who wanted to restore the two park areas which were eroding rapidly.
The community group worked with nArchitects and landscape architect Starr Whitehouse to restore the parks. The designs will see the two parks linked with an infinity bridge creating a walkway between Exchange Place and the Liberty Harbor.
As a result of input from a community workshop, the park design features include a floating aquatic vegetative island promoting aquatic life, a wet meadow and several points of access to the waters edge and two pavilions for family gathering with seating areas, a comfort station and a venue for events such as concerts or puppet shows.
The waterfront park looks across New York Harbor to Lower Manhattan and is in a growing residential community. The park will also feature gardens, a slide mound, swings, water features and a dog run.
The ‘connect the parks’ initiative was created by a group of Jersey City residents who formed the Jersey City Waterfront Parks Conservancy. They sent out 14 requests to architects and landscapers before deciding on Starr Whitehouse and nArchitects.
