Designed by Quadrangle, the 540,000 square foot building situated east of the White House in Washington, D.C features efficient energy consumption; 25 % renewable energy usage including wind, solar, and biomass; and heat island reduction owing to below-grade parking.

Other characteristics of the building include lighting systems that use daylighting controls, sensors, timed shut-off, and individual, controllable task lighting applications to cut down lighting energy consumption as well as light pollution in the night time. It will also incorporate sustainable cleaning products.

The building which was completed in 1983 and was a part of a 1.5 million square foot mixed-use project is one of the first existing mixed-use building to win the LEED certification.
