Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) has won two Design in Mental Health Awards for the refurbishment of the Central Park Building.
Recognising the team’s commitment and dedication to improving the healthcare environment for all, GMMH won awards in the following categories: Project of the Year – Refurbishment, and Team of the Year for the Capital, Estates & Facilities Project Delivery Team.
The project team, working closely with the design team and wider stakeholder groups, focused on ensuring the spaces were functional, effective, fit for purpose and well utilised. The outpatient clinic’s interior design features include light, open and airy spaces with specifically selected textures and colours to create calming environments that support varying patient needs.
Adding to the clinic’s character and calming atmosphere, the project features an enhanced package of wall graphics, including the Manchester Bee and bespoke skyline graphics celebrating Manchester’s heritage.
Central Park serves as a hub for GMMH services, centralising operations that were previously spread across multiple locations. The transformation aims to help with enhancing the community-based healthcare services available for Manchester residents.
With multiple clinical services co-located at Central Park, the facility encourages collaborative working, helping to provide holistic and more efficient care coordination to improve service user outcomes. This aligns with the NHS 10 Year Health Plan’s goal to make the NHS ‘the world’s most collaborative public healthcare provider’.
The building also offers a number of office-based non-clinical departments, housing hot desks and private meeting rooms for all to utilise.

‘For both the refurbishment itself and the CEF project delivery team to be successful in these prestigious awards is really rewarding as we continuously strive to provide the very best healthcare facilities for our staff, service users and carers to utilise and operate from. These accolades add further justification to the long-term planning, hard work and dedication of all of those involved.’
