Pursuant to the contract, both the companies will manage various aspects of the Midfield Terminal Building construction, which is poised to be the largest terminal in Abu Dhabi. The terminal will have an area of 700,000 square metre.

The new terminal will include several duty-free retail outlets, restaurants, and lounges among other things. The terminal will boast of an annual passenger handling capacity of 20-40 million. The project also involves development of airside and landside infrastructure, a multi-storey car park, cargo building, catering building, maintenance complex and other supporting facilities.

Passenger facilities will also include more than 296,000 square feet of airline hospitality lounges, a transit hotel and a heritage and culture museum. The terminal will have sufficient piers to accommodate 65 aircraft, including the Airbus A380. The terminal building is scheduled to open during 2017.

The terminal is likely to have the most architecturally impressive structure in the region. The size of the central space of the building will be as big as three football fields and features a ceiling 52 meters tall at its highest point.
