The project included the interior designing of the Passenger Terminal Complex, Control Tower, the new Railway Station and the numerous support and ancillary buildings, including the 120-key airport hotel.
The design is inspired by the local environment and culture as well as the city’s historical art and architecture to create a contemporary yet culturally sensitive gateway to Jeddah and the Holy City of Mecca.
Areen has been first awarded the interior design and supply management contract by SBG in November 2010. Areen has been in charge of both the design of the interiors and the procurement management of interior finishes and furnishings for the whole project. Enabling works started on site in February 201. Basic infrastructure and structural work is currently in progress with interior works due to commence in the main terminal later this year.
The airport is due to be finished by 2014 and will handle 30 million passengers per year.
