The Sainsbury’s food store at Chapelford Urban Village is a key component of the village. It is designed to suit the modern residential setting. The use of materials and scale have played an important role in generating the design.

The building allows significant daylight onto the shop floor which contributes significantly to the environmental performance of the scheme. The building also features a cafe on south eastern corner. This presented its own thermal challenges that were overcome by utilising industry leading performance glazing.

The masterplan for the site also includes a primary school, pub-restaurant, health centre and public park. Chapelford Urban Village is a David Wilson Homes residential development of over 1,500 new family homes built upon the former RAF Burtonwood site.

BDP has provided architecture, masterplanning and landscape for the new Chapelford Village centre, and architecture and landscape for the new Sainsbury’s store.
