Redesigning parts of the nature reserves to make them more attractive for tourists without compromising their ecological value, the project includes the enhancement of the Kronenloch and Wohrdener Loch nature reserves and their Wadden Sea coastlines spread across several hundred hectares.

Based on the Nature on Display theme, the redesigning includes a UNESCO play area that showcases nature, and contains elements such as stepping stones and water pumps, an educational trail, salt marshes, and a new saltwater pool.

An area around the harbour will allow visitors to swim, to take sunbath and relax on a new stepped promenade. Other leisure functions of the site include a restaurant, and bike and boat rental facilities.

Apart from that the open spaces within harbour will be further enhanced with floating holiday homes and wooden lodges, spreading into the adjoining reed lands.

The aim of the competition was to integrate more tourist opportunities in an ecologically sensitive area along the Wadden Sea, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its rich flora and fauna, especially birds.
