Located at the heart of Suzhou’s new Wuzhong Central Business District, the 65,000 square metre Mall Shopping Centre has been delivered to client Suzhou Zhongrun Real Estate Ltd, part of Zhongrun Resources Investment Corporation.
Led by the practice’s Shanghai-based team, the new project has been designed by taking guidance from its world-class retail and retail branding expertise of its teams in Europe and Singapore.
The city’s canals, bridges and gardens with Suzhou known as the ‘Venice of the East’ have a strong impact upon the design of the new project. Natural elements such as water shape the design, with the feel of ripples and pools incorporated in space complete with curved balustrade details.
In order to provide a soft look and to bring an identity to key spaces, the primary void spaces are designed with organic forms. Bridges and pools have been designed within the floorscape to create seating areas, while bespoke furniture has been constructed from natural local materials. The landscape design reinforces the concept by using the existing canal edge and including new water features, land bridges, bench seating and planting areas.
Reflecting both international design best practices and the natural beauty of Suzhou, the shopping centre has been designed to cater to the needs of the brand-conscious customers.
