Poised to be an architectural landmark in Nordhavn, the new school will provide a vibrant hub for the area. The school will be located in the vicinity of parks, canals and the harbour basin, and will be a sculptural and dynamic building that will be in tune with the large scale of the harbour.

The building will consist of numerous small structures, which will offer individual space for every student. The school is organised around a sculptural sequence of stairways, which will feature seating, sitting steps and ramps that will foster both relaxation and movement.

The other spaces, such as classrooms, offices, subject rooms, small plazas will be built around this. The centre of the building will have a unifying atrium. The school will also offer access to a large roof terrace.

To connect the school to the harbour, the design will incorporate steps, recreational promenades and floating islands in the harbour basin, which will be built outside the school. The lower floors of the building will have semi-public spaces, consisting of a theatre auditorium, cafeteria, foyer and gymnasiums, which will also be available for use to people outside the school.

Construction on the scheme is scheduled to commence in 2013. The school has received a donation of DKK200 million ($33.91 million) from the A.P. Møller Fund.
