Balsillie’s plan includes an atrium-style entrance lobby, luxury boxes, lounges and restaurants, seats for up to 18,000 visitors, and installation of a state-of-the art video scoreboard.

Copps Coliseum, which is to become the new home of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, will be renovated to meet NHL standards.

The original facility lacks modern amenities such as luxury suites. The renovation project is expected to add new luxury boxes, locker-rooms, rink surface, ice plant, and climate control systems.

The renovation design will be carried out by sports facility architectural firms BBB Architects and its subsidiary, and Stadium Consultants International.

Jim Balsillie, the co-CEO of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion, has made a $212.5 million bid for the financially ailing Coyotes, on condition that he can move the club to Hamilton.
