Designed by Nightingale Associates and developed by BAM Construct UK Limited, the new Hadyn Ellis building is the greenest education building in Wales. Located at the new Maindy Park research campus of the university, the building serves as the gateway to the new research campus.

The environmentally sound research facility encompasses an area of 9,000 square metre and houses the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics, and two of the university’s new research institutes (URI’s); the Cancer Stem Cell and Neuroscience and Mental Health Institutes. The building will also accommodate the University Graduate College, a 150-person theatre and a public exhibition space.

The facility accommodates laboratory, teaching and office space. It also houses a lecture theatre, cafe and a large centralised public atrium with space for exhibitions. The building boasts a striking mix of coloured glazing and terracotta cladding. It also features concrete cantilevered staircase and will use natural energy for heating and light purposes.
