The five-year expansion and renovation project, which is the largest in the hospital’s 50-year history, will include enhancements to women’s services, emergency, and surgical departments.

As part of the project, a new three-storey tower will be built to the right of the existing main entrance to facilitate renovation and expansion of women’s and children’s services on the second floor. The first floor of the tower will house administrative offices and public spaces, while the third floor will feature an expanded clinical laboratory.

In addition, the new women’s and children’s health pavilion will be located in existing patient care areas, which will be completely renovated and modernised. The pediatric care unit will be moved from the third floor adjacent to the women’s and infants’ care area.

Expansion and renovation of emergency department will relieve the current congestion. Other plans include two new replacement operating suites for general and cardiovascular surgery and the relocation of the post-operative patient care area to the second floor of the new tower.

Overall, more than 38,000 square feet of new construction and more than 72,000 square feet of renovations will be taken up as part of the project.

Parking lot will be reconfigured to address safety and accessibility, while a public access corridor will be constructed across the front of the building that will connect the current main entrance to the existing patient registration entrance. With this move, the existing patient registration entrance will become the emergency department entrance.
